NOTES:
- Price Per Lid/Unit is the lowest price found on the web, eBay, or Amazon. Prices shown are purchase price divided by quantity.
- Price Per Cup is computed by taking into account the price of the product, a K-Cup ® Pack reused (10 times if reused with original filter, 25 if reused with new filters), $.05 per serving for coffee. Price of unit is not factored in if it can be used forever.
Reusable K-Cup ® Packs vs. Lids
There are two major types of solutions. The first is a entire reusable K-Cup ® Pack unit. Keurig, Inc was the first to introduce their version of this as the My K-Cup ®. The second type of solution are lids for reusing a K-Cup ® Pack. The Reusable K-Cup ® Pack units will always give you the lowest Price Per Cup of coffee (around $.05 as shown below). However, that price is offset by the fact that all of the reusable K-Cup ® Pack units cost above $10 per unit so it is hard to buy a bunch of them and make them up in advance and enjoy the convenience of the Keurig ® Brewer. The lids on the other hand are less expensive and allow you to purchase more of them. This convenience is offset by a slight increase in the Price Per Cup (around $.10 as shown below).
Detailed Notes on each Solution
The Keurig ® My K-Cup ® is the original K-Cup ® Pack alternative. It has been selling for years and is one of the most popular brands.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee - Keurig, Inc endorsed solution |
- Must remove K-Cup ® Pack holder to use |
The My-Cap Caps were introduced in 2007 and were the second alternative K-Cup ® Pack solution on the market. They are designed to Cap reused K-Cup ® Packs either using the existing filter in the original K-Cup ® Pack or with new filters.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee |
- Reusing filter (new filters available) |
At one time the Keurig brewers injection needle forced water directly down into the K-Cup ® Pack. Todays brewers do not. This solution has an injection needle with holes along the side and the water is sprayed out sideways.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee |
- Highest price per lid solution |
This solution allows you to make a sealed K-Cup ® Pack. The solution is composed of a cup, filters, and a lid. The lids are also sold separately to be used with a reused K-Cup ® Pack. In all cases, the product is designed to be thrown away after each use. Because of this it is the highest Price Per Cup solution.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Makes a sealed K-Cup ® Pack | - Highest Price Per Cup of coffee - Used only once - Reusing filter |
The Ekobrew came out in 2011. It can hold up to 14 grams of coffee (the largest on the market). This should help get a stronger brew. It also has a flat bottom, and is easy to fill.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee |
- Must be cleaned between every use |
The Kbrelids are designed to replace the foil lid on top of the K-Cup ® Pack. In order to do this, the K-Cup ® Pack must be cleaned and dried. Then you fill it with coffee and IRON on the foil lids.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee |
- Lids must be ironed onto K-Cups ® Pack - Can not use new filters with this solution - Used only once - Reusing filter |
The Brew-Saver is a metal lid that fits on top of the K-Cup ® Pack and has a center hole that is spring loaded so that the injector nozzle pushes it down to spray the water into the cup. The Brew-Saver is a good solution when it fits the K-Cup ® Pack. The biggest problem with this solution is that it does not fit all K-Cup ® Packs well. In addition, the cover in the center hole does not retract so the water is sprayed around the edges of the coffee instead of into it.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee |
- Lid does not fit well on K-Cup ® Packs - Can not use new filters with this solution - Metal could affect the taste of the coffee - Self sealing lid interferes w/ the water spray - Reusing filter |
The Solofill came out in 2010. It can hold up to 11 grams of coffee (larger than a K-Cup ® Pack). This should help get a stronger brew. It has a odd shaped bottom, so it tends to fall over on the counter-top.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee |
- Must be cleaned between every use |
The Cafe Cup came out in 2012. It can hold up to 10 grams of coffee (larger than a K-Cup ® Pack). This should help get a stronger brew. Be careful about the prices shown on the website. We ordered some thinking we would get them for $10 for two/four and ended up paying $24.97 total.
Pro's | Con's |
---|---|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee |
- Must be cleaned between every use - High cost of each unit - Coffee grounds get through the steel mesh |
Why is the My-Cap Cap the Best Solution?
Because the My-Cap Cap system is the lowest priced and most convenient solution on the market.
Lowest Priced - Because there is no other lower priced "use forever" solution and it gives you a low Price Per Cup.
Most Convenient - Because you can purchase lots of of them (at a low price) to make K-Cup ® Packs in advance and still enjoy the convenience of your Keurig ® Brewer.
